Four Tet Goes Back To Basics In ‘Beautiful Rewind’ LP

With minimal prefab hype and maximum impact, Four Tet has unleashed his latest LP, ‘Beautiful Rewind,’ on the Internet. As the title (possibly maybe) implies, it’s a vibrant summation of Four Tet’s discography and voracious imagination, if not the trajectory of the IDM-to-EDM continuum as a whole.

Over the past few years, Four Tet (a.k.a. Kieran Hebden) has cut an omniscient swath across the electronic zeitgeist, emerging as part of the new century’s glitch mob, maturing into a futuristic disco don in near tandem with Caribou, before arriving at this collection of 11 tracks clocking in at a brief but dense 40 minutes. Gauzy female and hard-hitting rap/toasting vocals are chopped and diced; beats grumble, thunder, and sputter; styles sway from skewered hip-hop and spacey afro funk to alien ambience; and the tempo tilts along a dizzying orbit that never loses focus of whatever core energy is propelling Kieran’s creative momentum. It’s a technicolor thrill ride by one of electronic music’s stalwarts–and according to him, it’s only streaming for a short time so hop to it. To celebrate, Hebden’s throwing down eight hour sets this weekend at Fabric in London (sold out) and on Follow him on Twitter to keep up.

‘Beautiful Rewind’ will be available on Hebden’s own Text label in the U.K. October 3, and in the U.S. on October 15.
