When Kendrick Lamar released that fireball verse off Big Sean’s “Control,” it wasn’t just rappers who were quick to react. After getting name-dropped in the song, legendary retired NBA coach Phil Jackson also felt some type of way. “@kendricklamar it’s okay to be cocky and sure, but we all need somebody to lean on. Let’s just call it mentoring,” Jax wrote in regards to KDot’s aggressive line: “Who the f%# y’all thought it’s supposed to be?/If Phil Jackson came back, still no coachin’ me.” In a sit-down interview on the Seth Davis show, the 13-time NBA champion revealed that it was his 539,000+ followers on Twitter that pushed him to respond. It’s deeper than rap.
