This past Saturday (Oct. 26), VIBE attended Red Bull’s second Street Kings Brass Band competition in New Orleans. Located in the heart of Tremé, right under the Claiborne Bridge, local teams from The Big Easy went head-to-head on the main stage as guest judges: Trombone Shorty, Kermit Ruffins, LeBron Joseph, Walter Ramsey and Jan Ramsey observed from the judges tour (all local music legends).

Bands TBC Brass Band, New Creations Brass Band, The Original Pinettes Brass Band and New Breed Brass Band Battled all duked it out for the coveted Street Kings crown while DJ Mannie Fresh kept the crowd bouncing. Over 7,000 spectators came out to support, including Solange Knowles and Deborah Cox. The Red Bull was bountiful and the BBQs were red hot as charbroiled oysters sizzled to perfection.

The competition was stiff, but history was made on this Saturday afternoon as the all female troop, The Original Pinettes, took home the title, thus renaming the award the “Street Queens” crown. The event’s hosts Glen David Andrews and DJ Slab1 gave the girls their top spot and ended the event with a grand finale cheer.

VIBE was there to catch all the action, scroll through out photo gallery to see how it all went down.
