Unreleased Music: Gorillaz ‘Whirlwind’

While DJing on BBC Radio 2 over the weekend, Gorillaz headman Damon Albarn let loose with an exclusive, never before heard Gorillaz song that was left off of the group’s last album, Plastic Beach. The project featured Snoop Dogg, Mos Def, Bobby Womack, Little Dragon, and De La Soul. However, on “Whirlwind,” the track features the Lebanese National Symphony Orchestra for Oriental Arabic Music, which isn’t as graceful of a name as the music that they produce here. The song features classical Western strings with a distinct Middle Eastern flavor, making for another unusual and fascinating addition to Albarn’s multitudinous output.
