Watch: Tyler, The Creator Puts On His Directing Hat For ‘Glowing’ Video

When he’s not working for visuals for his own songs from WOLF, Tyler, the Creator functions as his director alter-ego, Wolf Haley. The traditionally aggressive and unfiltered rapper took a different road when directing the video to “Glowing,” by an anonymous artist. While showing a young couple grow old together, holding hands the entire time, we see that the world around them is littered with chaos, hatred, famine and poverty.

According to Odd Future manager Christian Clancy, directing the video was the perfect way to show fans a totally different side of his psyche.

“This was a song I heard nine months ago and couldn’t get out of my head,” he told NPR. “We thought it would be a cool opportunity for Tyler to show another side of himself. I played the song for him on a plane, not knowing whether he would like it (he’s a tough audience), and he did. What people take from it is up to the viewer I suppose. Controlling the narrative seems contradictive to the point. For me it’s a challenge to the assumption that ignorance is bliss, and that challenge is as timely as it’s ever been.”
