Kerry Washington Talks Wearing Her Wedding Ring on Set and Getting Fashion Advice from Tracee Ellis Ross
Fresh off a successful Saturday Night Live hosting gig, Kerry Washington flashes her pearly whites for the December issue of Lucky Magazine. Dressed in designer duds and sporting some fierce bangs, the Scandal actress continues to unravel more details from her surprise nuptials to football player Nnamdi Asoumugha.
“I never wanted to have a ring that I would feel uncomfortable riding the subway with. My wedding band and engagement ring are the only things I can say that I wear every day, I pin them to my clothing on set. That way, I always have them with me.”
Contrary to popular belief, Kerry insists she’s not as stylish as her fictional counterpart, opting for jeans and sneakers off set. In fact, the actress admits to being less than saavy in the fashion department during her early Hollywood years. Today, she credits famous friends like Tracee Ellis Ross and Fashion Police host George Kotsiopoulos for helping her develop a winning style.
“They really taught me a great deal. They would give me the names of designers to watch or magazines to buy. And I started to develop a language around fashion,” she says of her style education. “In my mid-20s, fashion intimidated me. But when I went to the shows, it suddenly occurred to me that it was the same as going to a gallery opening or to the theater…It is a moment to take in the work of a particular artist and decide how you feel about it.”
