Pharrell Williams is getting those checks that should last a lifetime. His latest work finds him partnering up with the Oscar winning Hans Zimmer to form a supergroup that will score The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Marc Webb’s superhero sequel has enlisted the talents of The Smiths’ Johnny Marr, Incubus’ Michael Einziger, Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart, N.E.R.D.’s Pharrell Williams, and composer Hans Zimmer to score the film.

The director tweeted a picture (see above) of the group in the studio, and Zimmer has gone on the record to explain the genesis behind this unlikely team up. “Marc and I were talking about Spider-Man, and as the word got out, so many of our friends and musicians started calling us up, wanting to be a part of it, because they love Spider-Man. That was the thing that united all of us — the great love for Spider-Man. With all these hugely talented people wanting to join us, it was Marc who said, ‘Why not start a band?’ Marc and I have had a great start jamming with everybody, and we still have a few surprises up our sleeve,” Zimmer said.

Zimmer and Williams have collaborated several times before in scoring Despicable Me, Man of Steel (Williams was part of the drum orchestra), and the 84th Annual Academy Awards. Meanwhile, Marr, Einziger and Stewart played on Zimmer’s scores for Inception, The Lone Ranger and Madagascar 3, respectively.

The music should play as a wonderful backdrop, as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will feature the talents of Andrew Garfield, Jamie Foxx, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Paul Giamatti, and Dane DeHaan.

The Marvel adventure will hit theaters on May 2, 2014.
