On the Timberland heels of his Care Package 2 release, Omarion stopped by VIBE HQ to discuss paying homage to his L.A. roots on the project with all West Coast-based artists and why his Maybach Music bossman Rick Ross has yet to sign a female.
“I think when it’s the proper time, they’ll do that,” he says. “It’s not a lot of female rappers out there but it’s hard to find people that match the Maybach Music work ethic, and I’m not just sayin’ women, but people.”
For the project’s lead single “Know You Better,” Maybach O tagged Slauson Hills MC Nipsey Hussle in for the mix tape version and reveals that they both went to school together.
“I wanted to keep the mixtape West Coast. Me and Nip, we have history,” he says. “We went to junior high school together so it’s real cool to work with not just another L.A. native but someone I have history with. We’ve been talking about working together for a long time. It was just the right time so he came through with the verse last minute.
Omarion also chatted about his former classmate’s $100 Crenshaw project and how much he would sell his Care Package tapes for if he were to re-release it with a price tag. Watch the full interview above.—Adelle Platon (@adelleplaton)
