Black Student Lynches Two White Men on Campus
In a crazy but fascinating turn of events, one student is under hot water for depicting lynching on her school campus. Artist and senior at Sacramento State University, Christina Edwards, recreated strange fruit with real nooses and two white actors–who are both fine–for a civil rights art project.
The project quickly became viral after students flooded their social media outlets with pictures of the men. While she didn’t receive permission from the schoo,l she insist that she followed all campus procedures.
Unfortunately her project’s popularity on campus isn’t sitting well with many. The school isn’t backing her reverse racism visual. “It appears that the individuals involved did not intend for the display to incite violence, though it offended members of our community,” Alexander Gonzalez, the SSU’s president told Fox40.
“The purpose of this performance was to bring to light social injustices and the issue of inequality that impacts me and my community as a whole,” Edwards told the news station. She states that she chose “to illustrate this time in history using race reversal shining new light on an old but standing matter.”
She wanted her project open up the conversation in terms of social and racial equality on her campus and that’s why she chose such a distinct and opportune display. Vixens, do you think she succeeded in this or was it too far?
