Kanye West Accused of Anti-Semitism
It’s been a bad week for Kanye West. In a recent interview with New York hip-hop station Power 105.1, West made some questionable remarks about the Jewish population that seemed Ant-Semitic. The comments were made in response to a discussion of President Obama’s perceived difficulty executing policies in Washington.
“Man, let me tell you something about George Bush and oil money and Obama and no money. People want to say Obama can’t make these moves or he’s not executing. That’s because he ain’t got those connections…Black people don’t have the same level of connections as Jewish people. Black people don’t have the same connections as oil people,” said Kanye.
The comments sparked the anger of the Anti-Defamation League, whose president, Abraham H. Foxman, released a statement on the League’s website on Monday. He wrote, “This is classic anti-Semitism. There it goes again, the age-old canard that Jews are all-powerful and control the levers of power in government. As a celebrity with a wide following, Kanye West should know better. We hope that he will take responsibility for his words, understand why they are so offensive, and apologize to those he has offended.”
Kanye West’s most recent controversy is only the latest in a string of interviews where he has been perhaps a little too vocal about his opinions. One thing is for sure: he definitely isn’t shy about speaking his mind!
