Over the weekend, Fox announced three new mainstays for their Gotham program.

In addition to Zabryna Guevara (Law and Order) joining the cast as Captain Essen, who is Jim Gordon’s boss at the Gotham City Police Department, Fox and Warner Bros. Television have announced the casting of four more characters for the show.

Southland star Ben McKenzie will play James Gordon and now, producers added Robin Lord Taylor (The Walking Dead, Accepted) to play Oswald Cobblepot, better known as The Penguin. Bruce Wayne’s advice-giving butler, Alfred Pennyworth, will be played by Sean Pertwee, best known from Event Horizon and Dog Soldiers.

While there is still no word as to when the show will take place, if they choose to follow the history established in the Year One comic story, Essen and Barbara Kean (Gordon’s fiancee played by Erin Richards) could eventually end up at odds.

The character descriptions for Oswald and Alfred are described as follows: “The Penguin has the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal … he’s a low-level psychopath who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.” “Alfred Pennyworth is a tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London. He’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne.”

Bruno Heller (The Mentalist, Rome) wrote the pilot script and will serve as executive producer on the series.
