T-Pain Has Recorded A Sequel To ‘Buy U A Drink’
T-Pain has officially become 2014’s go-to quote monster.
Indeed, witnessing the Tallahassee artist/producer’s unfiltered insight on his burgeoning comeback detailing the nasty realities of a music business has been a breath of fresh air. (We are still waiting for Kanye West to answer to Pain’s allegations that he dissed the top-hat wearing music man to his face during a recording session for 808s & Heartbreak—an album that largely boosted TP’s futuristic vocal swag.)
T-Pain’s first single “Up Down (Do This All Day),” from his upcoming fourth album Stoicville: The Phoenix, is proving to be the catalyst for another productive run for the busy artist. But according to Pain, coming up with a follow-up single is proving to be an arduous pursuit.
“The reason I haven’t brought out a second single yet is because I got so many other ones,” he tells VIBE. “And I’m trying to figure out a way to have somebody valuable listen to the singles. But that’s taking longer than actually it took to record the damn songs [laughs]. But it’s a good problem to have.”
Pain is gearing up for a new song release that picks up where he left off in his 2007 prime.
“There’s one called ‘Drinking Partner,'” he says of the new track. “That’s a quality song. It’s basically a second ‘Buy U A Drink.’ It hasn’t gone down in quality for me. I actually listened to ‘Buy U A Drink’ and pretty much re-did it. I threw a little of that classic T-Pain in there while making sure that I can still do it today.”
“And I’m still recording songs,” T-Pain continues. “Every time I record a song I’m calling the label like, ‘Yo, I got the next single!’ And they are like, ‘No, that’s not the single…’ [Laughs] Then I record another one and they say, ‘Yeah, that’s the new single!’ And that’s usually the one I don’t fucking like that much!”
