The hoopla created by the announcement that Michael B. Jordan would play Johnny Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot has finally been addressed by the actor himself.

There isn’t even a single frame of Michael B. Jordan or the others shot and there isn’t even much about the plot of the film on the web, yet people are keen to voice their opinions about Josh Trank’s choice of casting Jordan in the role. With a bevy of negative backlash floundering around the internet, Jordan addressed critics while at a press conference in Rome while promoting his Fruitvale Station film.

Taking an “it is what it is” attitude (see: the high ground) when asked how he felt about the casting commentary, Jordan said, “It was expected. You kinda know going into it that people are used to seeing something one way, it’s a continuity thing more than anything. People don’t like change too much.”

But was the celebrated leading man upset about the response?

“Annoyed? You just kinda accept it, it is what it is. You can’t make everybody happy,” Jordan confessed. “I’m an actor, I have to do my job. I’m going to do my job the best I can and the way I’ve been doing it my entire life, my entire career.” It is no secret that Fantastic Four director Josh Trank and Michael became close after working together on Chronicle, but many people are just as excited that Jordan will play the Human Torch that are upset. The film itself doesn’t require much explanation as to how Johnny and Sue are brother and sister, even if they have different skin colors. Trank can create anything from them being adopted siblings to having parents of different races to connect theses dots.

“I grew up a comic book guy, I read comic books as a kid growing up, and the Fantastic Four/Human Torch is one of my favorite characters so I’m going to give it my everything,” Jordan confessed. “I just want to go into it and do the best job I can.”
