It’s not hard to miss the humongous Five-Percent Nation pendant that hangs from Jay Z’s neck. Recently, his chain attracted the attention of conservative White men who questioned his ties to the Nation of Gods and Earths. Five-Percent Nation, aka Nation of the Gods and Earth, was created in 1964 by Clearance 13x after he split with the Nation of Islam.

It’s alleged that 13x left the NOI because he disagreed with the teaching that the biracial W. Fard Muhammad was Allah. Instead, 13x taught his followers that the Black man is God and Black woman is the Earth, mothers of civilization. Nation of Gods and Earth also taught that 85 percent of people are blind to the knowledge of themselves and God, while 10 percent know the truth but keep it to themselves.

The remaining five percent are the Poor Righteous Teachers of God being the Asiatic Black Man. Many rappers, including Big Daddy Kane, Rakim and Nas, are reported members of the Five-Percent Nation and many rappers have rapped about their allegiance. Check out some of your favorite rappers who’ve dropped Five-Percenter knowledge.
