Jazz Fest 2014: Backstage With Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue

| May 9, 2014 - 9:01 pm

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue closed out the 2014 Jazz Fest main stage. When VIBE first met Trombone Shorty, born Troy Andrews (in Jackson Square a few days prior to the set), the Treme native said his interview wouldn’t be complete without his band, so he invited us backstage to meet bassist Mike Ballard, drummer Joey Peebles and guitarist Pete Murano, who together make up Orleans Avenue.

“Well, our music is based off of dance music. All New Orleans music is based off dance music, even jazz…”says Shorty. “When we come to New Orleans, even though it says the Jazz Fest, that’s just a name, here you get everything.” Go behind the backstage trailers at Jazz Fest with Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue to find out how they make music gumbo.
