| June 3, 2014 - 9:06 pm

To celebrate Black Music Month and hip-hop’s 40-year-old history, BET is set to deliver The Message, a documentary that will examine the genre’s evolution and how it has impacted the culture. Narrated by Joe Budden, The Message features in-depth interviews with music heavyweights like Russell Simmons, Ice Cube, Pharrell, Nas (above), and more. Media personalities such as Sway, Big Tigger, and Funkmaster Flex offer their two cents as well. The Message will be split up into four one-hour episodes: The Birth and Proliferation of Hip Hop; Trials and Tribulations; Women, Cash, Clothes; and The Digital Revolution. The series will air every Wednesday on BET at 10pm EST, beginning June 4.
