This year’s Summer Jam show (June 1) was equipped with dope performances from the likes of Nas, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and even brought G-Unit back together. However, for some, like rap pioneer Chuck D, the annual music festiv was a disappointment. The Public Enemy front man took to Twitter to express his distaste for the show. Chuck D fired off a slew of his tweets, including one with a photo of him giving some serious side-eye. “The look on my face after I heard what a sloppy fiasco @hot97 in NYC has made of HipHop. #culturalCrime,” he wrote.

His verbal tirade continued throughout the day, with Chuck D defending Funkmaster Flex, addressing Morning Show host Peter Rosenberg’s role at HOT 97, and labeling the station as a “CORPlantation slaveship.” Former HOT 97 Program Director Ebro Darden responded to Chuck D’s criticisms on Tuesday (June 3), tweeting, “True artists and activists have always complained about mainstream media & music… As they should! Good balance..,” The verbal exchange between the pair continued on for several more tweets with each throwing clever jabs at the other. Chuck D isn’t the first hip-hop artist to give the radio station and Ebro a piece of his mind. Last year, Blackmoon member, Buckshot called Darden an “Uncle Tom” and claimed that he “f*cked up” New York’s hip-hop culture.
