Kendrick Lamar’s debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, was 13 tracks of pure imagery but if the lyrics weren’t enough to transport you to Compton during K. Dot’s adolescence, you have a chance to catch it on-screen.

Top Dawg’s golden child is teaming up with director Kahlil Joseph and a slew of newcomers to the acting scene to create a short film based on his major label LP. The flick is being described as “a kaleidoscope of storylines and ideas that defy typical categorization to explore new languages and new forms.”

The 14-minute short film is set to debut at Sundance’s NEXT Fest on Aug. 9. Purchase tickets for the Los Angeles screening here.
