Where’s the Peace? ‘State of Emergency’ Declared in Ferguson

N. Brown | August 16, 2014 - 8:34 pm

After what seemed to be a peaceful day and night of protests in Ferguson, MO, things have taken a turn for the worst. According to most recent reports (Aug. 16), the city’s governor–Jay Nixon–has declared a “state of emergency” as residents loot and vandalize several establishments, including the liquor store where Michael Brown is rumored to have committed unarmed robbery. Police have also used tear gas in an effort to bring the violence to a stop.

“If we’re going to have justice, we must first have and maintain peace. The eyes of the world are watching,” said Nixon in a press conference earlier this afternoon. He also issued a curfew from midnight to 5am in hopes of calming the masses.

We can only hope that the investigation into Brown’s death moves swiftly. Our prayers and well wishes continue to be with the people of Ferguson.
