A$AP Ant Addresses A$AP Yams’ Death: ‘It Ain’t No Overdose’
Harlem’s A$AP Mob is mourning the death of its founder, A$AP Yams. As news circulated of the 26-year-old’s untimely passing, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Rocky and other members of the squad took to social media with messages in his memory. Looming over the death of Yams, born Steven Rodriguez, was his drug use. His final tweet was a reference to codeine, which led the masses to believe his death was due to an overdose.

In an interview with Vlad TV, A$AP Mob cohort A$AP Ant addressed the rumor. “It ain’t no overdose,” he said. “People stop saying overdose ’cause that’s not what it is. It’s not an overdose. People keep talking ‘bout he overdosed on Xanax and shit like that, lean. No, that’s not what happened at all.” SEE ALSO: Mob Ties: Meet A$AP Yams< Ant also blasted social media for their lack of sensitivity with regards to Yams’ death. Making a distinction between the public and the media, he asked that users refrain from posting personal photos, including a photo of A$AP Rocky in the hospital where Yams passed. “Everybody on Instagram and Twitter posting pictures of Rocky at the hospital where Yams passed away at, ya’ll looking like females and tabloids,” he said. “That’s not any of your business to post that. Let the blogs post that [...]That’s private for somebody. I wouldn’t want to see a picture of me on the Internet at a hospital while my grandfather dying. I wouldn’t want to see that.” Ant added that Yams’ business savvy would have led him down the path of previous rap moguls like Diddy and Suge Knight. Crediting the former A$AP Mob leader for helping him find his way after high school, Ant likened the loss to losing a hand. He ended his interview with a somber message to Yams. “I love my nigga Yams for real. I love you Yams bro, for real. I love you to death my nigga. I ain’t gon’ pour no lean up for you, I ain’t gon’ take no Xanax bars. I ain’t ’bout none of that. I miss you bro, for real. From the heart.” Listen to A$AP Ant’s full interview with Vlad TV here. `
