First-Of-Its-Kind Glass Tunnel Aquarium Is Opening In Brazil

South America’s largest aquarium is scheduled to open on Nov. 9 in Rio de Janeiro. AquaRio, holding 4.5 million liters of water and 3,000 animals from 300 largely native species, will give attendees the opportunity to explore the sea from the standpoint of a 20-meter glass tunnel.

The aquarium’s big attraction represents an investment of 40.6 million dollars. No other aquarium in the world has a similar tunnel, which gives visitors “a tremendous sensation of being immersed,” says AquaRio director and marine biologist, Marcelo Szpilman.
