Been Wearing Rompers: 11 Male Rappers In One-Piece Suits

The romper, which is simply and fundamentally a one-piece outer garment, isn’t novel. People (women most notably) have been wearing these suits in their various forms – short, long, plain, patterned, form-fitting, saggy – for eons. Earlier this week, however, a Kickstarter campaign promoting the latest “fashion revolution”—rompers especially designed for men, was launched.

The Internet rolled up its collective sleeves following the #RompHim announcement, issuing an onslaught of gut-busting memes and gifs using the hashtag. Most folks were on the fence about the whole thing. It even sparked a conversation on male masculinity.

Yet, the old adage “there’s nothing new under the sun” rings true in the case of the romper. And hip-hop – born from the concept of sampling, borrowing and remixing – rocked the “romper” in bold and diverse ways, especially in the previous golden era of the genre.
