'Avengers 2' Officially in the Hands of Joss Whedon

It's official! Joss Whedon officially has signed on to write and direct the next Avengers movie.

Disney chairman Bob Iger made the announcement when talking about how the first film boosted the company's by 25%.The film has grossed about $1.46 billion worldwide, more than $616 million of that in North America since it was released in May.

Whedon also will develop a "Marvel-based" series for ABC, which is owned by Disney. So far the director has kept quiet about the picture.

At press the final cast had not yet been finalized.
