ESPN has confirmed that Chad Ochocinco has officially been cut from the New England Patriots.
The Pats have been trying to trade the wide receiver for a week but were unable to secure a suitable deal with another team. Last night, Chad took to his Twitter to address his release from the Patriots.
"Thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to play for the "Patriot" organization... fans were f------ wicked awesome, I wish all of you the best...," Ochocinco tweeted.
Sources say the veteran player was unable to gel with the team and had difficulty meshing with the playbook. The 34-year-old caught just 15 passes for 276 yards and a touchdown in his only season with the Patriots after being acquired from the Cincinnati Bengals last July.
Last year, he was paid almost $6 million last season but agreed to have his contract restructured for 2012. His contract was lowered to $925,000 from the $3 million he had been scheduled to earn.
