One-Half Of The Longest Married Couple Dies at 97-Years-Old

The vow "till death do us part" served as a true testament for this married couple.

Theresa Watts Faiss passed away at the age of 97 Sunday (Oct. 28) after being married to former state senator of Nevada, Wilbur Faiss, for 79 years. They were deemed the longest married couple in America by the Worldwide Marriage Encounter and were honored by President Barack Obama.

And how did they make their marriage stand the test of time? "Compromise" said Sen. Faiss. "Everyday I ask her how she feels and, 'Is there anything I can do for you?' And said, 'Honey, I still love you.'" The 101-year-old also holds another title as the "oldest loving former Nevada state legislator," having served between 1976 and 1984.

Her three sons; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren also survive Theresa Faiss. Her daughter-in-law Linda Faiss said, "she was an amazing woman who was adored by her here sons." The community also adored Theresa Faiss after receiving the Clark County's Pioneer mother of the Yea title in 1996.

But according to their family, the couple's fondest legacy is their Wilbur and Theresa Faiss Middle School.
