2 Chainz is fully aware of the current excessive scrutiny that rappers are facing with their lyrics. In recent months rappers like Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and more have been penalized for their words. While most MCs say their lyrics are simply being taken out of context, even the big dogs have issued apologies. For 2 Chainz, he views his raps as his own art that should be looked at only for the creative aspect.

“One end, you want to talk about the first amendment, you want to talk about freedom of speech, but on the other end, everything is so delicate, you cannot say anything,” 2 Chainz tells MTV. “What hasn’t happened is that we all haven’t stepped up and taken a stand on, ‘We just gonna have freedom of speech.’

The ATL rapper is fully aware of the consequences with touchy lyrics but won’t compromise his art.

“Everything is so delicate, from homosexuality to these diseases that people can’t control, to where, when you’re just trying to be slightly creative and just try to use a metaphor in a different way that people can appreciate, maybe laugh about, it’s taken out of context the wrong way,” he concluded.
