Getting locked up is a terrible situation for anyone to be in. But it’s especially hard on rappers who find themselves behind bars because it forces them to fall back and step out of the spotlight for the duration of their prison sentence. Well, at least that’s what usually happens.

On Wednesday night, New York City radio station Hot 97 aired a telephone interview that Funkmaster Flex conducted with imprisoned rap star Lil Wayne. In the interview, the two rapped about prison life (it sucks), prison dinner (it really sucks) and all the fan mail Weezy’s received since he entered the clink back in March. He’s not the first rapper to hold an interview like this, though. Over the years, a number of MCs have agreed to participate in jailhouse interviews. Just check out this rap sheet. —Chris Yuscavage
