3 NASCAR Fans Sue Over Daytona Crash

Three people who walked away from a NASCAR wreck with injuries last Saturday (Feb. 23) are now planning to sue, Fox News reports.

The crash, which took place at a race on the day before the Daytona 500, sent scraps flying into the stands, leaving more than 30 people injured. According to Orlando attorney Matt Morgan, who’s representing three victims involved, the suit would target improper safety regulations at Daytona International Speedway.

"Ultimately, I believe it would be gross negligence," said Morgan of the lawsuit. "We all know that when you go to a race you assume a certain amount of risk. But what people don't assume is that a race car will come flying into the stands...That's why they make the fences."

The three individuals filing the lawsuit were released from the hospital after being treated for a variety of injuries, including a fractured fibula.

A suit can be avoided if a settlement is reached.
