27 People Killed in Newtown Elementary School Shooting – Connecticut

VIBE is deeply saddened to report about a horrific school shooting that took place this morning. According to reports, a gunman named Adam Lanza opened fire at an elementary school in Newtown, CT this morning (Dec. 14), leaving 27 people, including 18 children dead. The shooter was confirmed as dead from suicide after the shooting.. The first 911 calls were received by police at around 9:40 a.m., stating that students were possibly trapped in a classroom at Sandy Hook Elementary School with an armed man. Police immediately rushed a SWAT team to the scene, evacuating the students to a nearby firehouse as they walked hand-in-hand through shattered glass. Police recovered two weapons: a Glock and Sig Sauer. Connecticut governor, Dan Malloy, is on the scene delivering news to the families involved, making that his priority according to short media conference with a spokesperson. Connecticut State Police spokesman Paul Vance confirmed that the school is now clear, after being searched door-to-door. He also said the deceased gunman is still inside. The city’s local schools have been locked down for the remainder of the school day. The FBI and local police remain on the scene. President Obama has also been confirmed as offering his condolences and federal aide to Governor Malloy during a phone call this afternoon.
