Aaron Axelrod: The Making of the “Bad Reception” Installation for Skee Lodge

/ August 27, 2013

Los Angeles-bred artist Aaron Axelrod doesn’t paint inside the lines. Actually, he paints all over the place. His latest project was transforming the Skee Lodge smack dab in the middle of Hollywood into a 45-foot analog television, in honor of DJ Skee’s new AXS TV show Skee Live.

“Think it’s one of the coolest pieces I ever did,” says Axelrod of his laborious project, aptly dubbed “Bad Reception.”

Axelrod had less than three days to pull off the project after permits were cleared. VIBE was there to cover his blood, sweat and tears — okay, there were no tears …or blood — over the final three days of the project. Watch as he uses paint, PVC, silver, data mosh projection mapping and some other stuff to transform a cement wall into a piece of art that stopped traffic.
