Actor Jesse L. Martin Replaces Lenny Kravitz In 'Sexual Healing'

Actor Jesse L. Martin Replaces Lenny Kravitz In 'Sexual Healing'

K. Clark Posted March 5, 2013

Honestly, it is about time that they got this bit of casting right... Jesse L. Martin finally gets his wish!

Originally, the Rent crooner was attached to play Marvin Gaye in a biopic version produced by James Gandolfini -- who also had plans to co-star as music promoter Freddy Cousaert -- way back in 2008.

The project stalled leaving Martin out on the side of the road. Meanwhile, singer/songwriter Lenny Kravitz signed on the dotted line for the lead role in Julien Temple's movie back in November 2012, but Gaye's son Marvin Gaye III voiced his objections to the project.

It seems that the child's words have struck a cord with the casting director, as Jesse L. Martin has replaced Kravitz in the central role. The film, which was said to focus on Gaye's life in the '80s when he battled drug abuse and depression, now begins with the singer's attempt to get his career back on track with the help of Cousaert (now being played by Brendan Gleeson).

Filming will being in late March.
