Now that martial arts star Tony Jaa has signed on the dotted line, will superstar Kurt Russell be the next to join director James Wan's Fast and Furious 7 action-adventure picture?
The Golden Globe nominated actor, best known for roles in The Thing, Escape From New York and Death Proof, is in negotiations to play a role in the adrenaline-filled film that was originally offered to Denzel Washington. According to Variety, Russell would join series regulars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
The previous film, Fast and Furious 6, ranks as the highest grossing film for Universal, having brought in more than $750 million at the worldwide box office. There's no description as to who Russell would be playing, or any word about plot details, but the film is rumored to be returning back to Los Angeles after previously being set in other locations.
Russell, a proven actor in turning films into cult classics, is a great choice to add to Fast and Furious 7. With Jason Statham as the major villain, and Tony Jaa still yet to be announced, involving Russell suggests that they're taking the film to a higher level.
Written by Chris Morgan and directed by James Wan (The Conjuring), Fast and Furious 7 is scheduled for release on July 11, 2014.
