Actress Brooke Shields' Mother Dies

Sad news for actress Brooke Shields, best known for her extensive film and TV work and her long friendship with Michael Jackson. Shields' mother, Teri Shields, died last week at age 79 after a long illness.

Teri Shields was a controversial figure, notorious for the control she exerted over her famous daughter, raising Brooke as a baby model and child actress. The two had a rocky relationship, and were estranged for periods of time, although the elder Shields acted as her daughter's manager. Brooke was known for her sexually precocious roles even as a teenager, all seemingly encouraged by her mother - including a role as a teenaged prostitute in Pretty Baby and as a model for Calvin Klein jeans.
