Amy Winehouse’s bad habits were depicted in tabloids and blogs but documentary filmmaker Asif Kapadia plans to shed a different light on the late singer’s life.
In conjunction with Universal Music, the untitled documentary will focus on the life and career of the Back To Black songstress, THR reports.
“Amy was a once-in-a-generation talent who captured everyone’s attention; she wrote and sung from the heart, and everyone fell under her spell,” explained Kapadia and producer James Ga-Rees about the project. “But tragically, Amy seemed to fall apart under the relentless media attention, her troubled relationships, her global success and precarious lifestyle. As a society we celebrated her huge success, but then we were quick to judge her failings when it suited us.”
Focus Features International plans to sell the project to foreign buyers at the Cannes Film Market next month.
