Are You A Swinger?

Are you a Swinger-living in a key battleground state that could decide the fate of the election?

Throughout the 2012 election cycle, President Obama has held a lead in the national polls; in addition, he has been in the lead or tied in every swing state poll. In 2008, the President won all the important swing states, but it was anticipated that he would not win all the states he won in 2008. As we get closer to Election Day, the polls are getting tight, but the President seems to have the momentum in his favor.

President Obama first began polling against Governor Romney after the Governor won the Republican nomination. Obama held a slim lead throughout the summer, up until the Conventions, which people believed heavily favored Obama and the Democratic Party. The Presidents “convention bump” helped him take a large lead in the polls. The Democratic focus on the Auto Industry’s recovery helped Obama in the critical swing state of Ohio, a state where the auto-industry’s recovery had a huge positive impact.

Also helping Obama was the leaked video from a private campaign event, in which Romney made a speech calling the 47% of Americans who don’t pay income tax freeloaders and victims. Romney started to dip considerably in the polls after that video leaked, particularly in Florida, where many elderly citizens and retirees who no longer pay income tax (retired) reside. The comment against the seniors were troubling as they have worked all their lives paying income tax, and have a right to live off their Social Security that they paid into.

After a series of debates, Obama maintains a lead in OH and the two candidates are tied in FL. Come election night, these two states will be the path needed to victory, and will be heavily watched. Other Swing States to watch are:

States leaning towards Obama (numbers in parentheses are electoral votes)

Michigan (16)
Minnesota (10)
New Mexico (5)
Nevada (6)
Pennsylvania (20)
Ohio (18)

States leaning towards Romney
Arizona (11)
North Carolina (15)

Tossup States:
Colorado (9)
Florida (29)
Iowa (6)
New Hampshire (4)
Virginia (13)
