The Best Moments of the 2011 Grammy Awards

The Best Moments of the 2011 Grammy Awards

Posted February 11, 2012
The Grammy Awards are known for being one of the most prestigious nights for music industry elite.

Designed to recognize outstanding musical achievements, the who’s who of music are always in attendance. Each year controversy strikes, some artist careers are given a boost, artists are snubbed and countless breath-taking performances are delivered. The award ceremony is so grand that it's considered to be the music equivalent to the Emmy Awards for television, the Tony Award for stage and the Academy Awards for film.

As we approach this year's Grammy Awards, let’s take a walk down memory lane and re-visit some of the most memorable moments from the 2011 award ceremony. Hosted by LL Cool J, The 54th Annual Grammy Awards will air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on CBS Network at 8 P.M ET/PT.

Check out the highlights from last year's show below.

Watch: Lady Gaga “Born This Way” performance:
Lady Gaga’s performance of “Born This Way” wasn’t half as shocking as her entrance onto the stage. The mama Monster hatched from a gigantic egg to symbolize that she was, indeed, “Born This Way.”

Watch: Espranza Spalding Wins Best New Artist
Millions of Beliebers frantically Googled “Esperanza Spalding” as she was named the year’s Best New Artist. Thrown into the same pool as Drake, Florence and the Machine, Mumford & Sons, and the Grammy-hopeful Justin Bieber, the 26-year-old jazz singer ultimately snatched the title. Well deserved, Spalding, even with a band of teeny-boppers wishing against it.

Watch: Adele, Kanye, Foo Fighters Led Grammy Nominations
It was a big year for female vocal-powerhouse Adele and Hip Hop royalty Kanye West. ‘Ye picked up seven nominations last year; Adele and the Foo Fighters followed closely behind with six nods their way each.

Watch: Drake & Rihanna “What’s My Name” performance
In one of the sexiest performances of the 53rd Grammy Awards, Rihanna and Drake heated up the stage with their performance of “What’s My Name.” Rih-Rih even adds a little of that Caribbean flare we love and miss about her.

Watch: The Aretha Franklin Tribute
We can’t speak of memorable moments without mentioning Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Yolanda Adams, Martina McBride and Florence and the Machine's Florence Welch tribute to Aretha Franklin at the 2011 Grammy Awards.

Watch: Cee Lo Green’s wild and wacky performance with Gwyneth Paltrow
Cee Lo is that you ? He’s known for his wild costumes and colorful stage sets and nothing has changed. Check him out dressed in a over the top feathered number singing with Gwenth Paltrow.

Watch: Eminem, Dr. Dre, Rihanna and Skylar Grey Performance
“Love the way you lie” was perhaps one of the biggest records of 2011. “I need a doctor” by Eminem was also a big song. Em performed both songs with the help from Rihanna, Skylar Grey and surprise appearance from Dr. Dre.
