Beyoncé’s self-titled album, which dropped Dec. 13, sold just under a million copies in its first week, Billboard reports, but a BitTorrent file-sharing software revealed that her fifth-studio solo project was illegally downloaded nearly a quarter of a million times.

“The usefulness of BitTorrent data is that it allows record labels to have an incredibly detailed insight into where their artists are popular – right down to the town,” Gregory Mead, Musicmetric Chief Executive, said to Billboard. “Although the file-sharing numbers may be high, it will be possible to translate many of these into buyers.”

Billboard also reports that if those file-shared copies would’ve been purchased in the iTunes store at the sale price of $15.99, Beyoncé would’ve accumulated an additional $3.8 million.
