/ July 31, 2013

Looking to bring cheer to the impoverished Motor City, Beyonce took a minute from her Detroit concert to dedicate a song to the city’s citizens. The D recently filed Chapter 9 bankruptcy and is considered to be one of the country’s poorest cities. On the stage at The Palace of Auburn Hills Bey nailed a cover of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come.” During her performance, images of Detroit icons like Aretha Franklin, Aaliyah, Eminem, Anita Baker, Kid Rock, and Berry Gordy, Jr. flashed on the screen behind her.
