Beyonce, Taylor Swift Take Over the Grammys With 10 Awards Between Them

Beyonce, Taylor Swift Take Over the Grammys With 10 Awards Between Them

Posted February 1, 2010

The 52nd annual Grammy Awards took over Los Angeles during the weekend, with things closing out Sunday evening (Jan. 31). While the events surrounding the ceremony had everyone's attention on the west coast, superstars Beyonce and country singer Taylor Swift had the nation's eyes on them when they took home 10 trophies between them both.

Swift just turned 20 last month, and on Sunday, she earned four awards out of the eight nominations she was up for. Keep in mind, she had never won a Grammy in the past. But her triumph may have been overshadowed by Beyonce, who won six awards, including Song of the year.

B's six was the most won by a female artist at a single Grammy awards show, said reports.

"This has been such an amazing night for me," B said while accepting the award for Best Female Pop Performance. "I'd like to thank my family, including my husband [Jay-Z, just in case anyone didn't know]. I love you."

Close behind Beyonce and Swift was Jay-Z, taking home three awards: Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration; and the Kings of Leon, who took home Record of the Year with their song, "Use Somebody".

The evening as filled with performances as well. Lady Gaga started things off with "Poker Face," before welcoming Elton John to the stage for "Speechless."

Later Beyonce belted out "If I Were a Boy"; Pink performed "Glitter in the Air"; the Black Eyed Peas wowed the audience with a medley of their hits; and Lil Wayne, Eminem, Drake and Travis Barker surprised fans with versions of Weezy's "Drop The World" and Drake's hit single "Forever."

Other performances included Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli; Green Day; T-Pain, Slash and Jamie Foxx; and Maxwell, among others.

There was also a 3D tribute to the late Michael Jackson, which featured Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Smokey Robinson and Jennifer Hudson performing Jackson's "Earth Song," while 3D images played around them.

Then, Jackson's children, son Prince and daughter Paris, accepted an honorary lifetime-achievement award in their father's memory.

"I want to thank the fans, our father loved you so much," Prince said. "We will continue to spread his message and help the world."

"Daddy was going to be here; he was going to perform this year, [because] he couldn't perform last year," his daughter Paris added. "Thank you. We love you, Daddy."
