Despite controversy surrounding their full-length feature on Aaliyah, Lifetime's Whitney Houston biopic is taking shape.
The network announced that Arlen Escarpeta play Houston's husband, Bobby Brown, according to The Root. Yolanda Ross will be cast as the singer's longtime friend and confidante Robyn Crawford. Both actors have notable resumes. Escarpeta clocked in screen time in Final Destination 5 and Star Trek Into Darkness while Ross appeared in the HBO series Treme and TV movie Phil Spector.
The biopic reportedly revolves around Houston and Brown's tumultuous relationship as the singer rises to fame. Angela Bassett will make her debut as a director with this project. As previously announced, former Top Model contestant Yaya DaCosta will take the lead as Houston. The film is set for a 2015 premiere.
