Bow Wow Co-Signs Nas For Best Rap Album of the Year At 2013 Grammys

Bow Wow Co-Signs Nas For Best Rap Album of the Year At 2013 Grammys

VIBE Posted December 20, 2012

With less than two months away from the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, the debate for who will win the gold continues to heat up.

In a recent interview with VIBE, rapper/actor/host Bow Wow tips his hat to a Queens MC who had anything but a cruel summer.

“I hope Nas wins because I feel like he deserves it," Bow said, co-signing God's Son for Best Rap Album of the Year, "He put out a great album. I know he’s going through a lot of stuff, but he ignored the bad, got in the studio and created a masterpiece. That’s when you write your best music."

Nas' pristine work on his 2012 offering Life Is Good has secured him nominations in five categories, including Best Performance for "Daughters" and Best Rap Album.

When it comes to attaching the C-word to Mr. Jones' eleventh studio effort, Bow says the label is irrelevant. "People are calling it a classic. He put all of his frustration and pain into the music. That’s what it’s about. Not what the blogger’s write or what reporters say about you. He went to work."

Bow adds that the Illmatic rapper is characteristic of the genre. "When you talk about hip-hop, Nas is hip-hop to the core. The video for “Daughters” was one of my favorites of the year. Hip-hop has to get back to substance...You can’t be a club rapper and think you’re a hip-hop rapper. You never hear Nas’ records in the club, but that’s why he’s nominated for a Grammy.”

Nas is up against Drake, Lupe Fiasco, The Roots, Rick Ross and 2 Chainz for "Best Rap Album of the Year." Tune into the Grammy Awards on Feb. 10th at 8/7c on CBS.
