Virginia Tech is on lockdown today (August 4th, 2011) after three kids camping near campers reported the sighting of a possible gunman.

According to MSNBC.com, the children called in after spotting a man who looked to be carrying a gun under a cloth. The man is described as a white, 6-ft tall man wearing a blue and white shirt with gray shorts. He is cleanly shaven. The VA Tech website issued an alert at 9:37am and ordered all on campus to remain indoors:

“Officers responded immediately to the area but found no one matching the description,” the crime alert said.

“We have been told to stay put until we get more information,” Virginia Tech communications officer Lynn Davis told CNN during a press conference held at 11am EDT.

The man was spotted at Dietrick Hall, a dining facility located a few steps away from the location of VA Tech’s 2007 shooting where student, Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people in total before taking his own life.

Local police have been notified of the alert and it is not yet sure if the federal authorities are needed on the campus to search for the man in question. VIBE.com will keep you posted as this story develops. -Tyler McDermott
