Bruno Mars has lost his mother. Bernadette "Bernie" Hernandez died unexpectedly Saturday (June 1) in Hawaii of a brain aneurysm, according to the AP. She was 55.
Born Bernadette San Pedro Bayot, Hernandez was a former hula dancer and singer who immigrated from the Philippines. She was a big part of pushing Mars towards a music career. He started performing with his family at an early age as an Elvis impersonator. One of Mars' first recordings at the age of four was a song called "I Love You Mom." Since, he's gone on to win a Grammy and sold more than 8 millions records.
Hernandez died in Honolulu at Queens Medical Center. She was hospitalized late Friday night for a reported heart attack with family gathered by her side. She is survived by her six children; Presley Hernandez, Eric Hernandez, Jamie Hernandez, Tahiti Hernandez, Tiara Hernandez, and Peter Hernandez aka Bruno Mars.
