Burger King Twitter Account Attacked By Hackers

Burger King Twitter Account Attacked By Hackers

VIBE News Posted February 19, 2013

Hackers wanted it their way as they took over Burger King's Twitter account on Monday. Full details after the break.

The cyber tricksters changed the fast food company's avatar and name to "McDonalds" and then sent a McFlurry of questionable and offensive tweets.

Along with the obscene messages the hacker spent a good portion of that hour name-dropping a slew of big-name rappers such as Chicago's own Chief Keef and Lil Reese, and Maybach Music Group signee Meek Mill. Whoever took over Burger King's Twitter account had a particular taste for Keef and GBE—one tweet quoted Keef's "3Hunna" and "GBE" popped up all over the feed.

The Twitter mishap wasn't all bad news for the Burger King company, as the account added 5,000 new followers in the first 30 minutes since the hacker(s) took over.

According to a post by Mashable, the company issued a statement regarding Monday's Twitter hacking, writing:

It has come to our attention that the Twitter account of the BURGER KING® brand has been hacked. We have worked directly with administrators to suspend the account until we are able to re-establish our legitimate site and authentic postings. We apologize to our fans and followers who have been receiving erroneous tweets about other members of our industry and additional inappropriate topics.
