The weather outside is frightful. People in Cairo, Egypt experienced highly unusual conditions when they saw their capital city littered with snow. The inclement weather spread to Israel which was “described as the heaviest December snowfall since 1953,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

Cairo went over 112 years without seeing snowflakes, leading residents to capture images of the rare sighting on social media. Jerusalem also recorded three feet of snow that closed roads in and out of the holy city.
