According to Huffington Post, a California chef is accused of murdering his wife sometime before she vanished in October 2009, and then tried to commit suicide by jumping off an 80-foot cliff in Rancho Palos Verdes after learning he was being investigated as a suspect.

David Viens gave detectives an interview from a hospital bed in March 2011, stating, “I just slowly cooked it and I ended up cooking her for four days.”

Viens claims to only have kept the skull, telling investigators, “[The skull was] the only thing I didn’t want to get rid of in case I wanted to leave it somewhere—[It’s] in my mother’s attic.”

The original incident occurred when Viens “accidentally” murdered his wife, Dawn Viens, after tying her to the bed and duct-taping her mouth closed. The next morning, he was reportedly surprised to find her lifeless body.

Viens is scheduled to be sentenced on November 27. If convicted, he could face 15 years to life in prison.
