Casino Loses $32 Million in 'Ocean's Eleven' Heist

Casino Loses $32 Million in 'Ocean's Eleven' Heist

VIBE Posted March 16, 2013

An Australian casino was involved in an Ocean's Eleven type of scam that left it minus $32 million (AUS). The Crown Casino is Australia's largest casino and located in Melbourne.

A high stakes gambler and his team compromised the casino’s security cameras so they could zoom in or out and focus on other gambler’s hands in order to win the bet. The high roller, a visitor from overseas, played eight hands.

"It's very easy to intercept a signal from many casinos that don't take precautions," gambling security expert Barron Stringfellow told a Melbourne radio station. "The problem with casinos is that they believe they're unbeatable and we see over and over again that they're not unbeatable."

In the film Ocean's Eleven, George Clooney's character uses a similar method to swindle a Las Vegas hotel.

The high roller was hit with a withdrawal of licence, banning him from the casino. Since this happened several weeks ago, a VIP services manager believed to be apart of the operation has been fired. No arrests at press time.
