Chick-Fil-A has been in hot water for the past week over comments made by President and COO of the company, Dan Cathy on same-sex marriage.
"I think we're inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, you know, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes marriage,” he said on The Ken Coleman Show last month.
He also added the company is an animate supporter “of the family, the biblical definition of the family unit."
His comments have caused a nationwide outburst my many left and right wing supporters. Cathy’s plans to expand specifically in Chicago, have been at a standstill due to his interview.
"What the COO has said as it relates to gay marriage and gay couples is not what I believe. But more importantly, it's not what the people of the city of Chicago believe,” Mayor Rahm Emmanuel told reporters.
With only one store open in the city of Chicago, it may take a while for another one to spring up. City Alderman Joe Moreno recently said the company can forget about getting a permit.
"I'm not gonna sit on the sidelines and allow them to come in when I know in my heart that they believe in discriminating against gay people," he said.
In the other part of the country, some are wondering if this is an issue of discrimination or free speech.
On the flip side, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former GOP presidential contender and former Sen. Rick Santorum are urging everyone to patronize their local Chick-Fil-A’s.
