Dr. Dre is getting California love in a major way. The mayor of the hip-hop mogul's home turf wants to grant him a key to the city.
According to TMZ, Compton mayor Aja Brown says she reached out to Dre's camp to make him the special offer in honor of his entrepreneurial spirit and probably because of that reported $3.2 billion dollar deal between Apple and Beats Audio.
With Dre's sponsorship of the performing arts and music programs in Compton, Brown hopes he could restore the city.
Should he take the key, Dre joins DJ Quik, who also received one for his charitable efforts in the city.
Man, I was such a philanthropist I probably gave away $250,000 to the city of Compton, my guy. And who will ever say that?," Quik told HipHopDX in April 2011. "I got the key to the city of Compton when I was 29-years-old. They didn’t give me that for my music. That music was violent. They gave me that because of how I was going back into them schools and raising money for them schools."
