Maybe Kendrick Lamar had a point when he anointed himself king.
Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city sold it's millionth copy this past week, meaning K. Dot is platinum - and several other recent hip-hop releases aren't.
What's notable about GKMC hitting the platinum mark is that the album was only no. 52 on the Billboard charts the week before, and shot up into the top 40 last week. It's a safe bet that the reason was Lamar's internet explosion, thanks to his inflammatory verse on Big Sean's "Control." The beef bump helped Lamar move a few more records, plus led to a flood of responses from other rappers.
What will be more interested is next week, seeing if Big Sean reaps the benefits with his new album Hall Of Fame.
